SkySafari 5 App Reviews

Great app, but not perfect

I do love the app. It is really helping me relearn the sky that I learned as a boy. But the compass is often off. And it can be difficult to zoom into the region Im studying.

Its Great.

Wonderful application, well worth the price. Most of my star viewing is naked eye viewing in urban areas with occassional visits to star parties or remote areas. This has everything I need to find stars, planets, constellations, etc. My tech support question was promplty answered.

Great program!

I really like the layout. The music is a nice touch along with sound effects like crickets, bids and cool Sumer night to name a few. The program resembles freeware software called "Stellarium" which is also available for the iPhone and other computers. In my initial tests of SkySafari the rising and setting times of the planets look correct as well as the positions of their moons. I can remember having some issues with Stellarium in the past with such inaccuracies. This particular version of SkySafari while somewhat limited in magnitude appears to be a great choice for a quick check of the sky above us. The star colors look right and I enjoyed sweeping through the generated sky having fun finding those red carbon stars that were relatively easy to find in some cases with no chart magnification. Tap on the star or object and SkySafari identifies what you pick. Then hit the info button to learn much more about your selected object. Lastly a real treat is the ability to orbit. Choose a star, planet or whatever and hit orbit and the program takes you there! Simply hit the globe button to return to your original screen back home to the earth. Reminded me of Starry Night Pro that had a similar feature. Over all - This is a very nice well recommended app that beginners and experienced observers should enjoy.

A worthy upgrade!

Have 4, got the Push to upgrade to v5. At price of $free, cant be beat. MUCH prettier and compass works better. Dont like having to purchase in-app orbit mode again, but hey, have blown 99 cents on dumber things. Now need some clear weather to test out with real stars!

what?

What is different from version 4 to version 5. I compare with another star map but this version is not smooth enough version4 and another app such as starwalk 2. I wish you read this and fix it. Bye this time I use another app.

Nice but . . .

A lot of hype but not much more substance than Safari 4. Very disappointed with need to repurchase the orbit add in that I purchased w safari4 .... A not fair rip off.

Nice upgrade

This is a nice upgrade to their older SkySafari 4 app. The look of the app is much better. There is also the tonight at a glance view that shows what is happening with the Sun and Planets today. The app is currently free which makes it a great deal. I think everyone should have this on their phone or iPad.

More notifications

It would be nice to have notifications for meteor showers, comet sightings and that kind of stuff. That would be really useful.

Stupid music

Same as 4, except with crappy ethereal music you cant turn off. Yeah, I can think of nothing better than to want to look up at the sky, and be forced to listen to listen to "Yanni: Live from the Nursing Home." Seriously, someone needs slapped.

Great App

I like this app a lot. My only suggestion would be to add lines for the ecliptic and celestial equator.

The Standard

Definitely the standard in Telescope software

You dont get the whole app until you pay more

A big part of the reason I bought this is to see orbits (that is displayed on one of the pictures) however that feature is locked behind an in app purchase. I feel if its shown it should be included if its already not a free app. I dont use this app with a telescope so I cant speak to that. There are other apps equally suited for stargazing.

SkySafari

Wonderful program! The compass feature makes it easy to find stars and planets in your sky.

Easy to use

Easy to use compared to other star apps.

Exceptional

As an amateur astronomer I appreciate that I can use this detailed app everywhere I travel. I share the fun with family and friends and can plan trips to view anticipated celestial phenomenon.

Favorite App

I love this app!!!

Nice but

Ive used this app through several versions, but I want to know where are basic data like the ecliptic and celestial equator?

Excellent app

I have yet to find any thing annoying about this app. Im on an iPhone 6 and do wish I was using an iPad instead, but this does well enough.

Excellent

I have been using Star Walk on my iPhone 6 but this ap is on a different level. Truly a PC level program running on my cell phone. The controls are well organized and the visuals are stunning.

Great for use at the telescope!

I use Sky Safari 5 most at the telescope. Its the perfect "star chart" and guide for an evenings viewing through the eyepiece. I can brighten or dim the appearance of the Milky Way to match my viewing location (dark-sky site or my backyard in the city), show stars and deep-sky objects to whatever magnitude limit I need, etc. The descriptions of objects is very complete and wonderful to read; I always learn something new! Great all-around planetarium software, perfect for use at your telescope. Try it!
